What is a magazine (when it's online)?

Some examples:

• National Geographic promotes its print magazine online

• Slate and Salon are online only

• CommArts, a highly respected design magazine, uses its Web site to extend the magazine brand and publishes numerous features that never appear in the printed magazine. For example, see the Interview with Rob Sax, president of design firm PlanetPropaganda.

• Dwell, a modern architecture magazine, has a Web site that's even more beautiful than its award-winning print publication. See, for example, the Learn/101 section.

• Pitchfork has no print version at all, but take a look and tell me if you would call their Web site ... a magazine.
