  UNESCO published this free PDF booklet as "a practical guide to the Internet for journalists in developing countries," but it's an excellent reference for anyone, anywhere. Note that you need the free Adobe Reader to view the PDF file.

  This site comes from the multimedia journalism reporting workshops at the University of California, Berkeley. You'll find tips about gear as well as storytelling here.

• BBC Free Online Broadcast & New Media Courses

  Audio, video, microphones, cameras, how to interview, how to edit. It's all here, in handy single-session lessons.

• Handbook of Independent Journalism

  This Web site comes from the U.S. State Department, but don't let that stop you. It's really a solid introduction to basic journalism, and if there's any flag-waving propaganda in it, I didn't find it.

• Anonymous Blogging: How-To

  This could save your life if you're blogging truth to power in some location where a repressive regime stifles free speech.
