Shells and backgrounders

Page history last edited by Anonymous 3 yrs ago

Some Examples of Guardian Special Reports

Gun Violence in the U.S.

Recent articles, sorted and organized. Not really a backgrounder. Sort of a shell.

Religion in the U.K.

Very extensive, and pretty nice even though it was built in 2002. The focus on the U.K. is unique. Note how they chose only ONE link for each church or religion.

Some Examples of BBC packages

The Struggle for Iraq

Very attractive and carefully organized package. Large and deep.

Quick guide: Violence in Iraq (400 words)

Good example of a backgrounder story.

From The New York Times

Backgrounder: Iraq's Militia Groups (1,000 words)

Notice the external links in the box at the top of the story. The Q&A format makes this easy to scan even though it is so long.

From the Naples (Fla.) Daily News

Affordable Housing: Crisis in Southwest Florida

An extensive and awesome local package about a very important topic. Notice the links in the right-hand rail.
